Patio Rooms

The Appeal of Patio Rooms

Patio rooms, also known as sunrooms, are enclosed patios. Because they are covered, families can use their patio rooms throughout the year. They are great for cooking and dining outdoors, providing a good view of your yard, garden or pool. Adding a patio room to your home can also increase its value.

Patio rooms can be either a three-season patio room or a four-season patio room. The main difference between these two patio rooms is that, as the name suggest, a four-season patio room is a place you can use any time of the year while a three-season patio room is not good for use during extremely warm or cold weather. Four-season patio rooms have a heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) system that allows you to control the temperature so you can utilize this space anytime during the year.

When it comes to the cost of building patio rooms, the amount you would have to spend on this project depends on the features you want such as enclosure, roofing, and the installation of an HVAC system for four-season patio rooms. The materials you want to use are big cost considerations. The more functional and high maintenance a material is, the more it will cost. Naturally, a custom-built patio room is more expensive than do-it-yourself patio room or sunroom kits, which are ready for assembly and installation once you purchase them.

You can enclose your room with glass and add a screening to keep bugs out. Screens vary in material as well from ordinary window screens to stainless steel or fiberglass mesh. Alternatively, instead of screens you can use shades or blinds, which also offer ventilation and protection from the sun but allows you privacy by simply pulling them down.

You can design your patio room in different ways. Glass-enclosed patio rooms is the most expensive to build but this design is the most favored by many. You can take in the view of your garden or the scenery while keeping yourself comfortable inside. Adding sliding doors to this type of patio room adds a classy touch. Some glass roofs also have light-diffusing features that reduce sunlight to a soft glow.

Patio rooms are flexible. You can use them as recreation room, picnic area, and breakfast room, even a playroom for your children. Take the time to look at patio room designs and you will find so many breath-taking possibilities for your own patio room. Patio rooms allow you to enjoy the outdoors without really having to be outdoors, which is the appeal of this popular living space.
